Profound or Ultherapy: Which Treatment is Best for Me?

At our practice, we offer a wide range of treatments and procedures to restore skin laxity and promote collegian production – restoring the youthful appearance of the skin. Our most popular non-laser skin tightening treatment is Ultherapy, which is a non-surgical ultrasound procedure with minimal downtime. In addition to Ultherapy, the CEC team is proud to now offer the Profound treatment, which uses radiofrequency technology to stimulate the body’s natural collagen and elastin production.

In the unveiling of our latest procedure, we’ve received numerous questions about the differences and benefits of both treatments. To help our patients identify which treatment is best for them, we’ve listed the key differentiators of the treatments:

  1. Downtime: While both treatments are non-surgical, the Profound does warrant more downtime than Ultherapy. With Ultherapy, patients can expect minimal bruising and swelling for a few days. The Profound uses microneedles to penetrate the electrodes deep within the skin, which produces more swelling, bruising and redness, which can last for up to a week in the treated area.
  2. Treatable areas: Ultherapy can be used to treat the skin on the neck, chi, and brows as well as improve lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. Profound can treat all those areas, as well as the thighs, buttocks and abdomen. The Profound procedure can also treat cellulite, while Ultherapy does not.
  3. Cost: Since Ultherapy often requires multiple sessions over time to reach optimal results, patients can budget accordingly. Profound patients typically require one treatment in a given area, and the results last approximately 3 years. The cost for Profound is more upfront.
