If you’re one of the many men and women who worry about your next episode of urinary incontinence, EMSELLA might be the solution you’ve been looking for.

EMSELLA is a breakthrough treatment for urinary incontinence in men and women. It is a non-invasive, walk-in/walk-out procedure that is performed with no drugs, no downtime and no undressing.

The brief, pain-free treatment takes less than 30 minutes and uses High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to stimulate muscles in the pelvic floor—building muscle strength, increasing blood flow (men) and improving patients’ overall quality of life. In fact, 95% of patients treated with EMSELLA have reported significant improvement in their quality of life.

How Does Emsella Work?

When functioning optimally, the muscles that make up the pelvic floor play a key role in supporting important organs like the bladder, the uterus and vagina, and the prostate. However, due to a number of factors—from the body’s normal aging process to events like childbirth—the muscles in the pelvic floor can begin to weaken. As the pelvic floor muscles decondition, they are no longer able to support these key pelvic organs and this deconditioning can lead to urinary incontinence in both men and women.

EMSELLA uses electromagnetic energy to cause deep pelvic floor muscle stimulation while the patient remains fully dressed. A single EMSELLA session brings thousands of Kegel-like contractions which help you train your muscles without any effort, producing 12,000 contractions per treatment session. The EMSELLA not only effectively stimulates pelvic floor muscles but also increases blood flow.

How Do I Know Which Treatment Is Better for Me?

There are a number of treatment options to consider when addressing incontinence. In addition to the EMSELLA, we offer a number of vaginal rejuvenation treatments to help patients in Portland and the nearby areas of Maine feel comfortable with and confident about their sensitive areas. Often, a combination of treatments can provide even better results.

For example, the radiofrequency technology of the one-time treatment helps to build collagen in the treated area to boost strength and shape, particularly around the vaginal opening, while the HIFEM energy treatments with the EMSELLA help strengthen the pelvic floor, building upon one another to further address urinary incontinence challenges.

For those patients looking to address intimate wellness, our partner practice, Age Management Center, is offering EMSELLA patients a limited hormone screening free of charge during your treatment to determine whether your hormones are playing a role in your intimate wellness, because properly balanced hormones are pivotal for optimal intimate health. When the lab results are available, a provider from the Age Management Center will review the results with you. There is absolutely no obligation to move forward with a hormone program following the consult, your results remain wholly confidential, and the session comes at no additional cost.

How Long Is the Treatment? What Does It Involve? How Many Sessions Do I Need?

Your provider will tailor a treatment plan for you. A typical EMSELLA treatment takes about 30 minutes. The average patient will need approximately six sessions, scheduled twice a week.* With this cutting-edge medical device, the patient does not need to undress and can relax, read a book or even work remotely while the treatment is taking place.

What Is Incontinence and How Does the BTL Emsella Help?

Urinary incontinence is the inadvertent or involuntary leakage of urine. Urinary incontinence can set in at any age and be caused by a wide variety of factors. The BTL EMSELLA helps address urinary incontinence by strengthening the muscles in the pelvic floor. Types of urinary incontinence include:

  • Stress urinary incontinence. This is generally associated with activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure, such as coughing, sneezing and laughing.
  • Urge incontinence. This involves an involuntary loss of urine that occurs when a person has a strong, sudden need to urinate.
  • Mixed urinary incontinence. This involves symptoms of both stress and urge urinary incontinence.
