Photodynamic therapy is a light-based cosmetic treatment that can be used to treat facial redness, rosacea, and related symptoms. The treatment involves the application of a topical skin solution, that is quickly absorbed by cells causing the lesions responsible for altering the skin’s appearance. Light energy is used to activate this topical solution, which will destroy the pigmented cells and lesions as a result. With this technique, patients can achieve dramatic improvements in facial redness – as well as lines, wrinkles and pore size – in as little as one treatment.
How Much Does Photodynamic Therapy Cost?
The cost of photodynamic therapy treatments at Cosmetic Enhancement Center of New England will depend on a number of factors. During your free consultation, we will assess your condition and discuss your treatment goals to determine the approach to your photodynamic therapy treatment that will work best for you.

What Can I Expect From the Photodynamic Therapy Treatment?
The first step of the photodynamic therapy treatment is cleansing the skin. Then, the topical solution will be applied to the skin. We will let this sit for two hours to allow it to penetrate the skin’s surface. Then, light energy will be used to activate the formula. You may feel a warm or tingling sensation during this time, but most patients find the treatment to be tolerable. Afterwards, the skin will be cleansed and the treatment will be complete.
What is the Photodynamic Therapy Recovery Like?
After the photodynamic therapy treatment, you may notice some redness in the treatment area. The skin will be sensitive following treatment, so you’ll need to take special care to protect the area from excessive sun exposure by using sunscreen. In the weeks following treatment, the skin will begin to peel off, similar to a chemical peel treatment. This process will be complete within a week or two of treatment, revealing the healthy skin underneath.
What Photodynamic Therapy Results Can I Expect?
The results from photodynamic therapy will become visible in the weeks following treatment. While multiple treatments may be needed for best results, many patients see significant results after the first treatment. During your initial consultation, we will let you know what kinds of results you can expect and how many treatments will be needed.
