Do you have any superficial spider veins on your legs? Now that summer is here, it’s time to consider V-Beam laser treatment to help you say goodbye to your leg veins.

V-Beam laser treatment directs laser energy to the red blood vessels just below the skin that we generally call spider veins. The laser is short bursts of light that is absorbed by the blood vessels. It is a non-invasive procedure and does not harm the skin above the blood vessels, so recovery is fairly fast. Results are generally seen within a couple of weeks.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Before the laser is administered, the skin of the area being treated is cleaned. During the treatment, there may be a warm, tingling sensation. This is natural and generally not highly uncomfortable, so anesthetics are not required for V-Beam laser treatments. The sensation is often likened to a rubber band snapping against the skin.

The procedure can take about 15 to 30 minutes for leg veins, depending on the size of the area that needs to be treated. Afterwards, usually, some cold compresses or a cream may be applied.

What Needs to be Done Before and After Treatment?

Before V-Beam laser treatment, it is important to avoid exposure to the sun or tanning booths. These should continue to be avoided between sessions if multiple treatments are required.

After the treatment, the skin should feel warm for a couple of hours. Post-treatment care will be to continue to avoid sun exposure, regularly apply ice or cool compresses, use moisturizers and avoid scrubbing the area or using abrasive cleansers for a few days. It is fine to shower and gently cleanse the skin.

How Long Will Results Last?

Some leg veins may require multiple treatment sessions before the ideal look is achieved. Maintenance with regular use of sunscreen will help. Spider veins are often a hereditary condition, and a booster treatment every year or two will help to keep this in check.

Who is a Good Candidate for V-Beam Laser?

Men or women who want to get rid of unsightly leg veins, specifically spider veins that are not fed by reticular veins, are candidates for this treatment. Good candidates are also in good general health and have realistic expectations regarding the results.
