Successful lip augmentation is all about replacing collagen. Collagen is a pure and natural protein found in cartilage, skin, bone, and tendons. Certain collagens in the skin tissue are necessary for skin elasticity and strength. Over time, collagen breaks down, which causes the lip to lose its suppleness and in turn begin to diminish in size and fullness, wrinkle and form undesirable lines and grooves. To rejuvenate these signs of natural aging, trained physicians can now replace the lost collagen with injectable fillers. Collagen replacement products are clinically proven, highly effective and safe with very few side effects. There are several choices in lip augmentation fillers and the decision of which to use depends on our clients needs.
The trained and skilled medical providers at the Cosmetic Center of New England have been successfully treating clients with lip augmentation fillers for over 14 years. We use several different types of products and techniques. Each patient is carefully examined and the best most effective product is chosen to meet the person’s individual needs and goals. Restylane®: Restylane® is a clear gel. It contains hyaluronic acid, which naturally occurs in humans, which reduces the chance for any type of an allergic reaction. It’s biodegradable, which means that your body will absorb it within six months of the injection. This product typically lasts up to 9 months before requiring retreatment.
Juvederm®: Juvederm® Ultra Plus is a smooth, cross-linked hyaluronic
acid-based clear gel, which is injected into the skin. Juvederm™ lifts and adds volume to the areas being treated, creating a plump and pouty look. The skin remains soft and natural to the touch. Results are visible immediately following treatment. This is Dr. Atkins preferred treatment for lip enhancement. This product typically lasts 12 months before requiring re-treatment.
