Laser hair removal uses an intense, pulsating beam of laser light to get rid of unwanted hair. The laser passes a light beam through the skin and uses the dark melanin pigment, contained within the hair shaft as a “wick” to target the hair follicle. As the light beam hits the hair follicle, the heat from the laser destroys the hair follicle.

Laser hair removal does not guarantee permanent hair removal. It will however create a hair-free period which can range from several months up to a year or more. Through the application of multiple treatments, longer term hair removal is possible with laser treatment. Multiple laser treatments, typically five to seven, but as many as 12 may be necessary depending on the skin color and type of hair.

Skin color and type of hair are the key factors in the success of laser hair removal. The laser is most successful on dark hair (brown or black) and light skin. However, it can be used safely on people with darker skin.

Medlite C6: This laser has a very short “q-switched” pulse of energy that works best on fine, brown, peach fuzz type hair.
